Free Fresh Organic Veggies

Free Fresh Organic Vegetables on Your Table

A half century ago farmers knew the wonders of humus farming, where dark organic matter from decomposing vegetable waste mixed with animal manure yielded high quality crops. They rotated their animal pasture and crops and did not use pesticides. Little wonder that rabbits would pass through other farm fields to get the tastier vegetables and horses would strain across fences to reach the fringe grass.

Grow at Home

Developed into organic gardening you now have access to fresh free farm produce, untainted by chemicals direct from your own plantation. Even if you have a small area of yard or garden, perhaps even a small flat with a balcony it can be easy to grow your own. One single tomato plant can keep you going; you will be amazed at the potential crop yield. Imagine picking herbs fresh off the plant to enhance your salad.

You only need to know what to do, and this is not rocket science. Nature does it all, you just put the seeds in the composted soil, add a little water on a regular basis and ensure suitable sunlight and it will all happen from there.

Learn as You Go

As with anything in life it helps enormously to know what you are doing or should do and this is readily available from the experts. The whole cost of this may be less than a week’s waste of rotting vegetables from your refrigerator. The cost is very small, the benefits are very large.

This is what sustainability is all about, but rather than large government financed and managed projects this puts you in at the micro-level and gives you the power to change the world.

Benefits from Organic Gardening

Let us just review the benefits: the produce is free from your own garden, aside from some small set up costs, it is fresh because you harvest or pick only as much as you need at that time. You will know that you did not use chemicals so it is essentially all that is good for you and your health.  Your travel for shopping for vegetables is no longer needed and supplies are continuous, depending on the amount you grow. Even better, you are letting nature do what it is geared to do. You will be in tune with nature, so expect a lowering of stress levels and a calming as you regularly spend the little time needed to tend your garden. The payback time is extremely short, so this also makes sense to those struggling financially too.

You do need to understand some things, for example you should use manure from grass eating animals such as cattle and horses, not flesh eating animals such as dogs. The mix of nutrients rich in carbon and nitrogen has to be balanced, while oxygen and sunlight as well as water are important considerations.

Practical Learning after You Start

The best way forward is to quickly get the information you need and then get started. It takes little time to germinate seeds and this little bit of extra patience will mean that you do not have to buy plants, start from the seeds. It was always a wonder to see the bean seed sprout and break forth from the soil. This is a wonderful opportunity to live more cheaply, to eat more healthily and to tune into nature, so do not pass it up. Practical experience supported with a little knowledge will get you started and you will be a convert in no time. Surprise your friends when they next visit for dinner with all that is fresh direct from you.
